Must-see Vancouver When You Don’t Have Much Time

Suppose you’re going to be in Vancouver for the first time — but only for a day or so before boarding a cruise ship to Alaska or a flight across the Pacific.

What should you try to squeeze in while you’re there?

I offered a few suggestions, …

Numbers Suggest Tourism Industry is Bouncing Back

It’s official – the tourism sector pulled out of rough waters this summer, with smooth sailing expected for the foreseeable future.

Industry trackers at the Vancouver Island, provincial and national level have issued reports painting a shiny image for tourism operators in August, with Nanaimo among one of the industry leaders.

The industry has been in the doldrums for several years, driven in part by a faltering U.S. economy and a resulting drop in cross-border tourism, including fewer U.S. vessels in the …

Vancouver June 2012 Can’t Miss Events

June escorts in the official start of summer and the packed line up of events, from concerts to street parties and festivals, reflects the city’s overwhelming urge to get out and have fun.

I’m particularly looking forward to the line-up for Italian Heritage Month, including the EuroCup Breakfast and Commercial’s Italian Day on the Drive – one of the largest community events of the year dedicated to celebrating la dolce vita with food, music, entertainment and more.

But the street parties don’t stop there. Expect …

Renting Snow Tires in Vancouver

Vancouver, British Columbia does not see too much snow in the city in the winter but when it does come it is heavy, wet and causes havoc for drivers on the road. The best way to keep yourself moving and safe on the roads during these times is to get around in a vehicle with snow tires. The mountains and the roadways leading up to the resorts have snow for much of the winter season. When getting out of the …

Cypress Mountain in earliest ski opening ever

Cypress Mountain opened for skiing on Tuesday, the earliest opening ever for the West Vancouver ski resort.

The early opening is largely due to snowmaking equipment used during last year’s Vancouver Winter Olympics, when Cypress Bowl suffered an infamous lack of snow.

Long-time ski instructor Lorne Milne explained that …
